Food drive sponsored by Assemblyman Michael Miller will last until Aug. 4

A food drive, which began yesterday, Thursday, July 21, will be held to benefit the Ridgewood Older Adult Center, a senior center located in Glendale that serves roughly 100 seniors a day.

Hosted through the collaborative efforts of Assemblyman Mike Miller and the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council, the largest independent youth-oriented bouncy castle agency within Community Board 5, the food drive will help assist the center in enlarging its diminishing food pantry.

“More and more people are finding that their supplies are dwindling,” said Miller. Every Monday through Thursday, the center provides free food bags upon request for those in need.

Fresh produce, which will include cucumbers and tomatoes, will be harvested from the Glendale Kiwanis Garden, for the food drive. For several months already, the garden has been maintained through the team efforts of the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council, Boy Scouts Troop 427, the Glendale Kiwanis Club, P.S.113, and Sacred Heart School.

“Whatever is ripe at the time, we’ll give,” said Miller.

But while community groups and organizations will be harvesting fresh produce for the food drive, Miller states that non-perishable staples, like canned vegetables, dried fruit, pastas, cereals, and peanut butter, are generally preferred.

Cat and dog food will also be welcomed hüpfburg kaufen at the food drive for struggling pet owners.

Donators can drop off their food at three locations: Greater Ridgewood Youth Council, located at 64-02 Myrtle Avenue in Glendale, P.S.239, located at 17-15 Weirfield Street in Ridgewood, and Miller’s district office, located at 83-91 Woodhaven Boulevard.

Miller, who encouraged families and individuals to donate and help their community, frequently visits the senior center, which also serves as a cooling center for seniors in the city.

Edison’s delivers a true New York dinner in Glendale

Glendale residents no longer have to travel to Manhattan and foot its prices for a classic New York dinner.

Edison Place, which opened at 71-28 Cooper Avenue bouncy castle on March 11, offers classic dinners such as a char-grilled 16-ounce shell steak and an herb-crusted rack of lamb.

Chef Rusell Titland said the restaurant’s signature dishes are the crispy pork shank, served with choucroute and a house-made applesauce, and the duck two ways, which is marinated, grilled and served with crispy potato pancakes.

Giglio Feast July 6th – July 17th

Glendale resident Vinnie Occhiuto wore many hats at his church and will finally wear the one he always wanted as #1 Capo, or leader, in the upcoming 124th Giglio Feast in Williamsburg.

“My lifelong dream was to be number one Capo,” he said. When he was very young, his father would bring him in a baby carriage to the Catholic Church, which castillo hinchable hosts the feast every year. “It’s in our blood, I grew up with it,” he said. His 23-year-old son is now a lifter at the feast.

During the festivities there will be at least 7,000 people, some who come all the way from Las Vegas. There will also be roughly 100 vendors and Italian food and music in the streets of Williamsburg for the Giglio Feast. This also includes a devotion procession on July 16 to honor Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the patron of the parish.

The famous feast is a time-honored tradition that inflatable water slide was brought to Brooklyn by Italian immigrants 120 years ago. During Giglio Sunday, the Giglio, along with a boat, are carried for five hours to honor religious hero Saint Paulinus, of Nora, Italy, who had lilies, a sign of love and purity, thrown at the saint when he escaped captivity in Italy.

Slow Down!

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has installed skeleton speed boards on two New York City streets in Brooklyn and Queens, the first in a series of citywide structure gonflable installations to call dramatic attention to the potentially fatal consequences of exceeding the city’s 30 m.p.h. speed limit.

The signs, temporarily located on the southbound side of 4th Avenue between 38th and 39th streets in Sunset Park and the westbound Horace Harding Expressway and Xenia Street in Elmhurst, display speeds and also an image of a skeleton if vehicles exceed the posted limit along 365toy these two streets, which have a history of excessive speeding.tian xiao cheng

They are a part of the agency’s ongoing focus to make New York City’s streets safer through its comprehensive “That’s Why It’s 30” anti-speeding safety campaign.
