Residents and electeds to meet in composting program town hall

While the city is optimistic about its new pilot composting program, it hasn’t been so well-received in the affected neighborhoods.

Tonight, Thurs., June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Pancras School, residents will have a chance to air their concerns at a town hall meeting with elected and Department of Sanitation officials. attendees will include Senator Joseph Addabbo, Assemblymen Andrew Hevesi and Mike Miller, and City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley. The meeting will take place in Pfeiffer Hall.

Live Music Ridgewood Market June 22nd

This Sunday on June 22nd, three musical acts will be playing at Ridgewood Market. Willy Gantrum, The Horse-Eyed Men, and Feral Foster are coming to town.

Willy Gantrim is a singer-songwriter from Houston, Texas who has traveled all throughout the country and now resides in New York City. He plays on the tobogan hinchable guitar and sings songs that straddle the lines between country, blues, ragtime, and folk.

The Horse-Eyed Men consists of two brothers–Noah and Dylan Harley–who like to play, in their own words, “original, disgruntled Americana and country.” They grew up in Providence, Rhode Island with a strong musical background and eventually traveled the United States and Europe playing their music, which is a unique combination of  “spaghetti-western themes with cabaret, ragtime, and post-partum punk.”

Feral Forster is a New York folk and blues singer-songwriter. He recorded his latest album, Grave Country, last summer of 2013 and will release it in May later this year.

Escaped drug dealer caught in Manhattan

A suspected drug dealer who escaped custody in a stolen vehicle on Monday was found on Tuesday in Manhattan, police say.

Bryan McMenamin, a 37-year-old resident of Glendale, was arrested with another man who allegedly bought drugs from him on Monday evening.

McMenamin somehow escaped (police have not released details as to how) and took off in a stolen Jeep Grand Cherokee. Around 6:55 p.m., at the intersection of Cooper Ave. and 59th St. in Glendale, he rammed the SUV into a narcotics detective.

The detective was taken to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he is stable and is expected to heal fully.

The suspect then ditched the bouncy castle Jeep in the parking lot of the Ridgewood Post Office, on Myrtle Ave. at Decatur St.

Reports came that McMenamin was found and apprehended somewhere in Manhattan around 3 p.m. on Tuesday. He is now back in custody.

Monthly Community Board Meeting

The Community Board Number Five monthly meeting, held the second Wednesday of the month, will be located at the Christ the King High School, at 68-02 Metropolitan Ave.  The meeting is open to the public and will start at 7:30 p.m.

Tonights meeting will include a presentation by the NYC Civilian Complaint Review Board, committee reports, a discussion on the application for sale castillo hinchable of alcohol,  and the election of Executive Committee Members.
