Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that City beaches will be closed on Sunday due to hazardous weather. Councilman Donovan Richards, who reprents part of Rockaway relayed the message on Facebook this morning.

Due to the expected effects of Tropical Storm Hermine, Mayor DeBlasio has closed city beaches on Sunday (September 4, 2016). Extremely strong rip currents are expected. Depending on the track and strength of the storm, city beaches may need to stay closed through Monday (9/5)as well. Although the storm is NOT expected to be Hurricane strength or strike NYC directly, the effects of the storm may cause some coastal flooding and beach erosion. High tides for Rockaway Beach are expected at 11:11 AM and 11:21 PM on Sunday, 11:52 AM on Monday, 12:04 AM and 12:35 PM on Tuesday.
