New decorative lamps are popping up in Glendale thanks to State Senator Joe Addabbo who fought to preserve the funds.

“The funding and installation of decorative lighting in Glendale is something for which I have advocated for many years now,” said Addabbo. “I am thrilled to finally see the cooperative efforts of my office, constituents and the city result in this new lighting. By following through with this funding request from the community, it proves to New Yorkers everywhere that every issue brought to light is important and can be successfully addressed with the right combination of hard work, determination and patience.

“These decorative lights will add to the charm and character that Glendale already possesses, and I thank Serf Maltese for the original allocation and the NYC DOT for finally using the funds to make this project a reality,” he added.

According to Addabbo, the Inflatable Water Slide decorative lighting was originally requested by residents to place the old grey lamp posts in certain areas.

So far, new lamps have gone up along 88th Street and the DOT plans to install the posts along 74th Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard, Rutledge Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard, and Doran Avenue from 88th Street to Woodhaven Boulevard.

The total cost of the project, according to Addabbo, is expected to around $487,000.
