House of Representatives set to vote on giving Glendale its own zipcode

untitledThe House of Representatives is reportedly set to vote on a bill Wednesday introduced by Congresswoman Grace Meng that would create a new zip code for Glendale.

Since Glendale and Ridgewood split from their original Brooklyn zip code in 1979, the two neighborhoods have shared the zip code 11385. Meng also introduced the legislation in 2014 and 2015, but it did not pass.

“The lack of a unique zip code for Glendale also impacts the ability of residents to access services,” Meng wrote in a letter, regarding the legislation earlier this year. “Service providers of utilities and repairs have trouble finding Glendale homes because Glendale is often not recognized in the zip code.”

She added, “Glendale does not show up on GPS devices and this causes confusion about where addresses in this neighborhood are located.”
