The City Council’s women’s caucus members dressed in red on Friday, February 5 to celebrate National Wear Red Day to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases.

The caucus, which is co-chaired by Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, teamed up with the American Heart Association for the celebration.

“Heart disease and stroke are real threats facing women of this country every day,” Crowley said. “It’s so important that we as mothers, sisters, daughters, friends castillo hinchable and individuals know the facts and how to protect ourselves. We all have the opportunity to make healthy choices that could ultimately reduce our risk of a cardiac event.”

The two illnesses she mentioned kill one in three women in the country. About 44 million women in the U.S. are affected by heart disease, and 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing them.
